Two U.S. Air Force mission reports (MISREPs) from Operation Inherent Resolve log UAPs over Iraq on the same day, 5 May 2022. The first, from the 20th Attack Squadron (DOW-UAP-D109), says that from 0524Z to 0704Z the crew "periodically observed UAPs flying sporatically" in the target area while scanning points of interest. The objects travelled at 80-180 mph, could not be given an altitude, and were about 1-2 m in size. The crew reacquired them whenever the sensor returned to the original points of interest. Dust storms affected collection. The second, from the 196th Attack Squadron about 15 hours later (DOW-UAP-D106), repeats almost the same wording for target area 92AS at 2026Z, giving the same speed and size. Its structured observation field labels the activity "UAS". USCENTCOM released infrared/EO videos with D109 (PR140, PR141) and infrared stills with D106 (PR130, PR131). The files do not say whether the two sorties saw the same objects. They are grouped here as one event because the date, theatre, wording and figures match. The files do not explain the objects. *Method note: war.gov blocks this server. The mission-report PDFs were read directly from the originals via the ufotransparency.com mirror. The videos were not viewed; their content is taken from the official video descriptions as given on the mirror.*

Plausibility weighs how well an account fits where secrecy hides the documents by design, so missing records never count against it. Strength measures what is documented. Assessed 2026-10-23.

AND PERIODICALLY OBSERVED UAPS FLYING SPORATICALLY WITHIN THE TARGET AREA AND IN THE NE PORTION OF [redacted] ... THE UAPs WERE TRAVELLING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS BETWEEN 80-180 MPH. WE WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE ALTITUDE. THE SIZE OF THE UAPs WERE APPROXIMATELY 1-2 METERS. DURING THE OBSERVATION PERIOD, [redacted] WOULD REACQUIRE THE UAPs AFTER RETURNING THE SENSOR BACK TO THE ORIGIONAL POI LOCATIONS. THE UAPs DID NOT HINDER THE MISSION." (DOW-UAP-D109, p.6)
  • PR140 (official description): 1 min 47 s of EO/IR footage. An area of contrast crosses top to bottom at 00:06-00:08; tracking starts at 00:16; the sensor switches EO/IR five times (00:27, 00:32, 00:46, 01:13, 01:43); "no content" at 00:00-00:05, 00:09-00:15 and 01:11-01:12. The description cites D109's "between 80-180 miles per hour". (DOW-UAP-PR140, official description)

Claims

Multiple 1-2 m objects flew sporadically at 80-180 mph in the target area, altitude undetermined.firsthandSourced, unconfirmed20 ATKS crew (names redacted; anonymous), D109. Same wording from the 196 ATKS crew (anonymous), D106.
Speed came from the aircraft's sensor ("ACCORDING TO THE ... MTS").analysisSourced, unconfirmed196 ATKS crew (D106). D109's speed source is redacted.
The activity was "UAS" (unmanned aircraft).analysisSourced, unconfirmedthe structured observation field of D106. Its own narrative calls them UAPs, and the report does not reconcile the two.
