What we keep

UAP Trail is a research site. You can read all of it without an account, and we do not sell or share anything about you.

When you send feedback

The form stores:

  • your message;
  • your email address, only if you give one, so we can reply;
  • the address of the page you sent it from;
  • a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address, kept for a short time so one person cannot send hundreds of messages. We never store the IP address itself, and the hash cannot be turned back into it.

The form may show a spam check from Cloudflare Turnstile, which looks at your browser to tell people from bots. Messages are read by the site's editor and kept in Microsoft Azure storage. To have a message deleted, send feedback asking for it, saying roughly when you wrote and what about.

Analytics

To see which pages people read and where the site is hard to use, we count visits with PostHog, on its servers in the United States. It sets no cookies and is told to throw away IP addresses. To tell a return visit from a new one, it keeps a random visitor number in your browser's storage; it is not linked to your name, email or anything else about you. Some visits are recorded as a replay of clicks and scrolling, with everything typed into any box hidden, and the feedback form is never recorded. If your browser sends "Do Not Track", nothing is counted.

In your browser

The site sets no cookies. It remembers a few things in your own browser's storage: light or dark mode, whether this browser is left out of the visit counts, the random visitor number above, how you laid out the Workspace, and the records you visited or pinned. Apart from the visitor number, which goes with the visit counts, they stay on your device and are never sent to us.
