Platov & Sokolov, 'The study of UFOs in the USSR' (Vestnik RAN, 2000)

Yuliy Platov of the Academy of Sciences and Col. Boris Sokolov of the Ministry of Defence, the two coordinators of the Soviet state UAP programme, wrote its history in the Academy's own journal, Vestnik RAN (2000, vol. 70, no. 6). They confirm the Setka-MO and Setka-AN topics (1978–1990), name who ran them, describe a January 1980 General Staff directive that put the whole Soviet Army on UAP-reporting duty, count about 3,000 reports with a little over 300 anomalous, and leave the Borisoglebsk air crashes unidentified. Their overall reading is prosaic for more than 90% of cases.
