RF, terahertz sensors and radiometers
Instruments that see with microwaves and terahertz waves, plus precision motion sensors. Frank Maiwald built JPL's THz and microwave instruments; Igor's list wrongly calls him a deep-space radar and planetary-defense engineer and gives the wrong death date. Riverside Research, where McCasland was a trustee, works on THz imaging.
On the record
- Maiwald died 4 Jul 2024, aged 61, not Mar 2026 as the list says.
- COWVR was a Space Force-funded, JPL-built radiometer, launched to the ISS on STP-H8 in Dec 2021.
- Riverside Research focuses on hypersonics, autonomy and terahertz imaging.
