Purdue University School of Aeronautics & Astronautics
A top aerospace school with one of the largest academic hypersonics programs, heavily funded by AFRL and AFOSR. Sergey Macheret taught plasma aerodynamics here from 2014 until his 2023 arrest. Igor's list says he died in 2025; no record of that was found, and 2026 press releases show him active.
On the record
- Macheret joined Purdue AAE in 2014 after Lockheed Skunk Works.
- AFRL funded Purdue's Mach-8 quiet tunnel ($5.9M contract, about $10M total).
- Macheret was arrested 1 Feb 2023 and placed on leave; Purdue later said he was no longer on the faculty.
- 2022 AIAA Plasmadynamics and Lasers Award to Macheret.
