On the evening of 16 August 2026 an airline crew at 41,000 ft over Ohio, threading a gap in a towering thunderstorm, saw a uniform, highly reflective silver pill-shaped object at about 43,000 ft pass the other way on their left. The pilot, known only as 'J', put it at least 30 ft tall with no taper, took an iPhone photo as it fell behind, and asked Cleveland Center, which had nothing on radar. NUFORC investigator Ben Hansen filed the report on 26 October; NUFORC says the FAA found no radar return and no matching planned balloon launch. A balloon has been proposed, not demonstrated.

NUFORC published a 2 min 17 s video with the Cleveland Center voice tape and a radar-scope replay. The replay shows the jet at FL410, type E50P (Embraer Phenom 100); on the tape the crew calls it 'kind of weird' and 'slightly higher than us', a second pilot says 'it must have been at like 42, 43', and the controller gives the crew NUFORC's reporting number.
