How plausible · High
NASA's own scan shows the blue light; Mitchell's escort account reaches us through an anonymous friend.
- ●●Access An Apollo 14 moonwalker.
- ●●No gain sought Said privately, never sold.
- ●●Character record Apollo astronaut and MIT doctorate.
- ●●Checkable details check out AS14-66-9301 is public.
- ●●Physical traces or official reaction The light is on NASA's scan.
- ●○Restraint Mitchell never spoke publicly about it.
Against
- −Lone source, no corroboration The escort account comes only through Coulthart's unnamed source.
Plausibility weighs how well an account fits where secrecy hides the documents by design, so missing records never count against it. Strength measures what is documented. Assessed 2026-10-23.
On the record
- The lights are on NASA's ASU scan and the LPI browse; not on neighbouring frames 9300 and 9302.
Claims
Mitchell: blue lights escorted Apollo 14. Through Coulthart's anonymous 'Spaceman', a close friend: Edgar Mitchell privately said blue lights he saw as structured objects followed Apollo 14 out to the Moon, watched the crew on the surface, and followed them home; he saw and photographed them. Mitchell's public silence is not evidence against it: NASA worked under classification rules.Apollo 12 lights released by war.gov (VM001-VM005)Apollo 17 three dots (war.gov VM006)NASA, secrecy and the archive anomaliesApollo 12: lights 'escaping the Moon' and the tracking-light puzzleApollo cigar photosanonymousSourced, unconfirmedEdgar Mitchell
Mitchell: speaking out would be 'treason'. Asked why he never spoke publicly, Mitchell answered with one word, 'treason' (Coulthart's 'Spaceman', repeated in two Reality Check episodes).anonymousSourced, unconfirmedEdgar Mitchell
