The Lunar Orbiter frames Swann cites: the Shard, the Tower and the clouds

On the record
Strength B · 8/10 · 2 independent
Evidence 4/4 · Witnesses 2/3 · Backing 2/3

The features sit in a released NASA Lunar Orbiter frame, but the 'Shard' and 'Tower' reading rests on researchers' interpretation.

Plausibility Very low
Score 2 · 3 factors for, 1 against

Features in a real Lunar Orbiter frame read as "Shard" and "Tower" by Hoagland and Bara; one "object" was called a registration mark.

The Lunar Orbiter and Apollo frames Swann cites in Penetration, now pulled from NASA originals at LPI and ASU. The names 'Shard' and 'Tower' for LO-III-84M come from later researchers (Hoagland and Bara). Leonard's 'Super Rig' photos (NASA 71-H-781 and 66-H-1293) are still not found online; Leonard's book reprints them as plates.

  • −
Lone source, no corroboration Hoagland and Bara's reading is the only one that calls it anomalous.

Plausibility weighs how well an account fits where secrecy hides the documents by design, so missing records never count against it. Strength measures what is documented. Assessed 2026-10-23.
