Los Alamos National Laboratory

The Manhattan Project lab, now run by Triad (Battelle, Texas A&M, University of California) for NNSA, with 17,000 to 18,000 staff. Two LANL-linked people are in the press cluster: Anthony Chavez, a retired construction foreman, and Melissa Casias, an admin assistant. Igor's list turned them into an explosives chemist and a 'Michele', and misplaced Steven Garcia here. LANL also sits at the centre of the 1948 to 1951 green-fireball mystery.

On the record

  • Managed by Triad National Security (Battelle, Texas A&M, University of California) since Nov 2018.
  • In Apr 2026 LANL referred press questions on Chavez and Casias to the White House press office.
  • House Oversight letter to DOE (20 Apr 2026) counts 'two affiliated with Los Alamos' and calls the reporting unconfirmed.
  • Casias's remains were found 28 May 2026 in Carson National Forest with a handgun. OMI: gunshot to the head, manner undetermined.
  • Los Alamos green-fireball conferences on 16 to 17 Feb and 14 Oct 1949 included Teller, Bradbury and LaPaz. Transcript released Jul 2026 under PURSUE.
  • Project Twinkle (1949 to 1951) watched for the fireballs and ended with a 'probably natural' finding that LaPaz disputed.
